Norwood Reserve from the street

What is the Norwood Reserve enhancement plan?

The draft enhancement plans for Norwood Reserve were endorsed by Council in March 2023, with staged works and improvements currently underway.

You can view the enhancement plan and read more on Council’s Your Say webpage.

The enhancement plans were developed based on feedback from key stakeholders and members of the community, to help ensure Norwood Reserve meets the future needs of our community.

Works planned and underway

The Norwood Reserve works commenced in April 2024. All works are subject to budget availability.

Trees and vegetation

Tree planting and revegetation works at the front of the reserve have been completed.

A single avenue planting of Eucalyptus melliodora (Yellow Box) was chosen to line the Warrandyte Road boundary. These trees will be interplanted with Allocasuarina littoralis (Black Sheoak) and Acacia implexa (Lightwood). These tree species are indigenous to the area and will provide a native food source and habitat for birds and wildlife, including the local Black Cockatoo population.

Further planting in the reserve will occur according to the enhancement plan and will form part of the final stages of the project.

Drainage

Drainage improvement works are now complete.

The works include the expansion of the retarding basin at the north east corner of the site, to aid in managing stormwater storage during intense rainfall events.

Hard landscaping

Hard landscaping works (pathways) are scheduled to commence from mid-2025, following the carpark and soft landscaping works.

Building

No building works are included in the scope of the enhancement plan.

Car parking

Carpark improvement works are currently in design and are scheduled to commence in February 2025, subject to contractor availability and weather conditions.

The works will increase the current number of car spaces from 58 (including 3 accessible spaces) to 79 spaces (including 6 accessible spaces), which is an extra 21 car spaces.

Surrounding pathway works will also be completed to improve accessibility to the community buildings.
