Marcus Lee is a proud Aboriginal descendant of the Karajarri people and creative director of Marcus Lee Design. This artwork was created in consultation with Aunty Janet Turpie-Johnstone, a long-time resident of the local area, a Mullum Mullum Indigenous Gathering Place Board member, and a member of the Maroondah Arts Advisory Committee.
The artist describes how this artwork reflects on a time of plenty along the flowing waterways of Maroondah depicting a journey of discovery of the three main waterways: Mullum Mullum Creek, Dandenong Creek and Taralla Creek. Bunjil the wedge-tail eagle and creator of all the plants and animals, watches over the waterways and protects the native mammals, amphibians, birds, reptiles and fish that thrived throughout the region.
