Council has allocated funding this financial year (2024/25) for road reconstruction and improvement works in Victoria Street, between Knaith Road and Railway Avenue in Ringwood East and at the intersection of Victoria Street and Railway Avenue, Ringwood East.

Scope of works

The road reconstruction works will include:

Reprioritising the Victoria Street and Railway Avenue intersection to address limited traffic visibility and high vehicle speeds
Realigning the intersection to be a conventional T-intersection with priority to traffic along Railway Avenue
Reconstructing the two pedestrian kerb ramps and associated concrete islands at the intersection
Constructing a new footpath on the western side of Victoria Street and a new pedestrian crossing outside 25 Victoria Street
Constructing a raised pavement at the front of 28 Victoria Street to address speeding issues
Reconstructing concrete kerb and channel on both sides of Victoria Street and at the intersection of Victoria Street and Railway Avenue
Reconstructing two pedestrian kerb ramps at the intersection of Victoria Street and Loma Street
Reconstructing vehicle crossovers
Reconstructing stormwater drainage infrastructure
Performing road pavement renewal works
Upgrading signage and line-marking.

Works will be undertaken during regular working hours of Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and Saturdays if required.

Staging of works

Stage 1 of works includes the reconstruction of kerb and channel, vehicle crossings and pedestrian kerb ramps on Victoria Street, Ringwood East.

During this period, traffic control arrangements will be in place to ensure the safety of the public and contractor. While it is not anticipated that direct access to properties will be impacted during this first stage of the works, the contractor will provide advanced notification of any access restrictions and aim to minimise any disruption.

In later stages of works, the closure of Victoria Street and the intersection of Victoria Street and Railway Avenue will be required, with local detours in place via Smithdene Avenue and Louis Street, Ringwood East. Traffic controllers will be available onsite to assist residents and local traffic as required.

Residents and businesses will be updated on changes to traffic management arrangements, including road closures and detour routes, as works progress.
