Most building projects in Victoria require building approval before work commences.

It is Council's role to ensure both existing and proposed buildings in Maroondah comply with the Building Act and Regulations. We issue building permits, consider variations to Building Regulations, conduct inspections and provide advice on swimming pool and spa safety barriers.

Most building work in Victoria requires a building permit, and you must obtain the permit before starting any works.

Siting requirements

Siting controls regulate issues such as setbacks, building heights, overlooking, overshadowing, paving materials and carparking. They apply to any new building work.

The Building Regulations 2018 require that building owners comply with Australian safety standards by maintaining safe buildings for occupants, tenants and the public.
