Council Funded Programs

Every fortnight our 12-seater, air-conditioned bus will pick you up from home to attend one of the programs. Please note: you must be able to enter and exit a bus without assistance as it does not cater for wheelchair access. No personal support is provided in these programs. Council’s Shopping and Library bus programs require participants to be fully independent except for the transport support provided.

The days and times of the activities vary depending on your home location and destination, and you will be advised of the schedule when you book your regular fortnightly program.

Shopping program

Every fortnight you will be transported to Eastland to do your shopping or relax and enjoy a coffee by yourself or with friends! This program offers a door-to-door transport service only.

Because of limited room on the bus, a maximum of 4 shopping bags per person is allowed on the return trip and you must be able to carry your own shopping. Our volunteers are not permitted to lift more than 5kgs in weight.

Library program

Every fortnight, you will have the opportunity to visit Croydon Library and enjoy the large collection of books, prints, biographies, newspapers, magazines, DVD’s & CD’s which are brought to the group in the Glen Frost Room where you can have a chat and some morning tea while choosing what you wish to take home. You can also use any of the general library facilities during your visit.

Testimonials

"I was not aware of Council's extent of services until recently. I have a mobility problem & library service is provided, delivered by volunteer and post is greatly appreciated. Special attention is paid to my choice - thank you."

"Going to the library was a great social event."

"The seniors register works well for me but basically its up to the individual to put themselves out there. The secret is to keep busy no matter what interests the individual. There were supports listed over the page that I was not aware of. The Croydon Library was amazing for me - so connecting with their door to door deliveries and helpful attitudes"

"I think you all do a very good job. You keep us well informed with paper copy for us oldies who don't use a computer. It's lovely to use the Council office located in the library. The staff are always very polite and understanding."
