Australia Day awards

Maroondah's Australia Day awards reward outstanding community service at a local level. They recognise great achievements during the past year, or contribution to the local community over a number of years.
There are 3 award categories:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Community Event of the Year

Citizen of the Year
About the award
The awards for Citizen of the Year recognise outstanding contributions to the Maroondah community by individuals 26 years and over.
Their contribution could be in the areas of:
- sport
- hobbies
- at school, college or university
- in business or trade
- to the environment
- personal achievement
- voluntary work.
The nominated person does not need to be a resident of Maroondah, but their contribution must be substantially to the community of Maroondah.
How to nominate
Nominations for the 2025 awards are now open. Awards will be presented on 26 January 2025.

Young Citizen of the Year
About the award
The awards for Young Citizen of the Year recognise outstanding contributions to the Maroondah community by individuals aged 16 to 25 years.
Their contribution could be in the areas of:
- sport
- hobbies
- at school, college or university
- in business or trade
- to the environment
- personal achievement
- voluntary work.
The nominated person does not need to be a resident of Maroondah, but their contribution must be substantially to the community of Maroondah.
To be eligible for Young Citizen of the Year Award, the nominee must be at least 16 years of age and under 26 years of age on the date the awards are presented.

Community Event of the Year
About the award
The award for Community Event of the Year recognises an event which best reflects the importance of strong community values and ties.
The event must have taken place in Maroondah between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024.
Nominations for online and digital events are also encouraged. Groups can nominate their own event.

Australia Day award recipients 2024
Maroondah's Australia Day awards were held on Australia Day (26 January 2024).
At the awards ceremony, the Mayor presented a certificate to all nominees, and the award recipients were announced.
