Maroondah Italian Senior Citizens Club

The Maroondah Italian Senior Citizens Club is a long standing and highly successful Seniors Club that organises Social and Cultural activities and outings. The Club provides a rewarding environment for members, primarily of Italian decent, by offering an avenue and common place to meet and discuss their families, gastronomy, health and local issues affecting senior citizens.

The Club is a social get-together for senior citizens. Everybody is welcome. Members meet weekly for coffee and sweets plus a game of Bingo and cards. They also participate in lunches and excursions and trips throughout the year such as excursions to Port Arlington, Cherry and Chestnut picking, AGM luncheon, annual club barbecue, monthly member lunches, weekly coffee & bingo meet-ups, plus an annual weekend trip to rural Victoria.

It provides a social outlet for seniors, organising weekly, monthly and annual social and recreational activities that contribute to keeping seniors mentally & physically active. A key objective is to encourage seniors to get out & about and interact with their peers. Members view the club meet-ups as a necessity and find participating as uplifting & motivational.

The Club offers a rewarding recreational hub for Italian Senior Citizens & encourages member participation in a range of activities; ensuring seniors are socially, physically & mentally stimulated.

The weekly coffee & bingo catch-up is a popular get together for like-minded people to maintain cultural ties with their Italian community; many have been friends since they arrived in Australia 60+ years ago. Membership provides seniors with their own social outlet.

The Club inspires creativity & provides a platform to share home grown produce, sewing and craftwork, as well as home-made sweet treats, vinegar, wine, & cold cuts. Participation in the Club boosts morale and gives members something to look forward to throughout the year; monthly/yearly events, e.g. Christmas lunches, AGM dinner, summer BBQ, monthly Club lunches, weekly get together.

The Club provides leadership opportunities to seniors wanting to join the committee - encouraging involvement on a professional level and participating in weekly committee meetings, budgeting, designing activities, liaising with the accountant, Maroondah council and Multi-Cultural MP’s, and organising the weekly meet-ups.
