Maroondah Hospital Diabetes Education Centre

You can be referred to the Diabetes Education service if you.

• Are a current inpatient at Eastern Health
• Are currently attending an Eastern Health Endocrinology and Diabetes outpatient clinic

Diabetes Education provides the following:

• Help you and your family manage diabetes with confidence, skill and motivation through:
  - Understanding a diagnosis of diabetes
  - Gestational diabetes services to support women with diabetes in pregnancy
  - Self blood glucose monitoring, including the use of “Smart” meters
  - Registration with National Diabetes Services Scheme
  - Understanding the role of oral medications and insulin in diabetes management and use of insulin devices
  - Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and Insulin Pumps
  - Strategies to deal with recurrent or severe episodes of hypoglycaemia
  - Sick day management
• Provide nursing, medical and allied health staff with diabetes education and resources e.g. development, delivery and evaluation of an innovative education program called ‘Diabetes – Topics in a Flash’ to nursing staff
