Changing Gears is an NDIS provider offering a ‘Learner to Licensed’ driver training program that helps people with learning challenges like ASD2, ADD, severe anxiety, deafness and poor literacy pass their L’s and P’s, even if they’ve always struggled to pass tests.
And last year our ‘Get your L’s’ program had a 98% pass rate
So, how do we turn learning struggles into learning success? I can assure you, it’s not through good luck or coincidence!
Changing Gears has a 14-year history teaching people with learning difficulties how to get their L’s. Over that time, our compassionate and caring program leaders have acquired unrivalled experience in how to support neuro diverse and sensorily deprived people to pass the Learners Permit test.
As a result, we can pivot our teaching style to suit the needs of any audience, as they present. This means when someone registers into one of our Learner to Licensed programs, they are in the best possible hands.
Here's a little insight into how life changing it can be for our clients to have their specific learning needs supported. It’s commonplace (but always moving for us) when one of our students gets the news that they have just passed their L’s, and suddenly bursts into tears.

CHANGING GEARS LEARNER TO LICENSED OVERVIEW
Our full ‘Learner to Licensed’ curriculum is made up of two programs:
Get your L’s and
Get your P’s.
Participants can enrol in one or both programs.
Get your L’s’
Get Your L’s is a 4-day program - 10am to 2pm. It includes:
Days 1-3 classroom training.
Day 4 attending Vic Roads for the learner permit test.
Facilitating to specific learning needs. (98% pass rate.)
Facilitating learning of road rules and safe driving behaviours.
The result: students pass AND become better, safer drivers.
The 2% who fail get to re-sit our program until they pass.
Our Get your P’s program offers comprehensive support over 12 to 24 months to get your P’s. It includes:
Assessment of your specific learn to drive needs.
Pairing you with an RACV driving instructor.
A one-day hazard perception test training.
Supervised driver training for up to 3 people
Monthly Q&A sessions
Awareness training of the major pitfalls that lead to instant failure in your driving test.
Referral to an occupational therapist (if required).
Assessment of your readiness to sit the driving test.
Culminates in sitting the driving test and getting your P’s’.
If you fail the final test, we continue to support you until you pass.

To complete the full program with NDIS funding, simply ensure you have “Get my License” as a goal on your NDIS plan. It can be approved under core support: category 4 or capacity building: Category 9
