Council supports and promotes the wellbeing of our community by offering a range of information sessions, programs and activities catering to different life stages.

From mental health and parenting advice to practical skills and financial guidance, these sessions, programs and activities can benefit a variety of community members. Some of the topics covered include:

  • anxiety management
  • consent and body safety
  • cyberbullying
  • preparing for emergencies
  • legal and financial guidance
  • school readiness for young children
  • mental health first aid training
  • driver safety for older adults
  • mindfulness
  • strengthening resilience in families.

Council often collaborates with other local Councils, sharing resources and expertise to deliver more sessions to a wider audience. This collaboration ensures costs are kept down, making the sessions accessible to individuals from all walks of life.

Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Kylie Spears, encouraged community members to register for upcoming sessions.

“Council is pleased to offer and support a range of wellbeing sessions and programs for community members. By addressing a variety of important topics, Council aims to support individuals in developing their skills, knowledge and confidence so that they can navigate life’s challenges across different ages and stages,” Cr Spears said.

“I encourage our community to register for upcoming sessions and to provide suggestions for future topics.”

Sessions and activities are usually free or with a minimal charge, ensuring everyone can access valuable resources to enhance their overall wellbeing. Many sessions are also available online, allowing attendees to engage in sessions covering sensitive topics from a safe and comfortable environment.

Attendees have expressed gratitude for the practicality and effectiveness of the sessions.

“It was informative, positive and backed up with statistics and real methods to increase resilience and find our own happiness,” a participant said of The Resilience Project session.

Another attendee said a session on anxiety was “extremely practical” and “the best 60 minutes of information on anxiety” they had attended.

A third attendee said information was “easy to understand and could be applied to my lifestyle straight away” - a recurring theme among many other participants.
