Work-life balance and family-friendly initiatives
Council offers a range of family-friendly working arrangements to help employees balance work and lifestyle commitments:
- Cultural or ceremonial leave for employees to observe days of cultural, ceremonial and/or religious significance.
- Flexible working arrangements wherever practicable. These might include flexible start and finishing times, or a 9-day fortnight.
- Job-sharing arrangements in which two or more people share one full-time job, each working part-time on a regular ongoing basis.
- Learning and development opportunities.
- Leave without pay for periods of up to 12 months
- 48/52 and other similar models of employment, whereby a full-time employee receives an additional 4 weeks unpaid recreational leave in addition to their normal 4 weeks paid annual leave.
- Parental leave entitlements to eligible employees who are primary carers.
- Study assistance to encourage employees to develop their professional knowledge, skills and competencies by undertaking external studies and academic courses.
- Requests to work from home are considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the work and operational impacts.
