Our city is defined by its extensive canopy and our community places great value on our tree population.

Maroondah has an estimated 70,000 street trees, 47 bushland reserves and more than 750,000 ancillary trees (mostly native species) in parks and reserves.

Our trees provide shade and shelter, help control water runoff, evaporation and erosion and provide a home for wildlife. They reduce air pollutants and sequester carbon, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.

Avenues of trees reduce wind speed, particularly in developed areas, where buildings may act as wind tunnels. With increasing temperatures, stronger winds and higher intensity rainfall events more likely into the future as a result of climate change, Maroondah is committed to ensuring a green and sustainable future for our community and the preservation of our tree population will play a key role.
