Permitted Number of Pets

If you wish to keep more than two dogs and two cats, or four different types of animals, and your land is less than or equal to half a hectare, a Local Law permit is required from Council.

Without a permit, the number of animals on one property at any time must not exceed the maximum number set out in the following table:

Animal Permits 

A permit is required if you would like to keep more than:

  • two dogs; and/or
  • two cats; and/or
  • five rodents; and/or
  • 20 domestic birds; and/or
  • 20 pigeons; and/or
  • five poultry

For current permit fee refer to Fees and charges. Permits are valid from 10 April to 9 April each year (renewed annually) with appropriate fee payable.
