Domestic Animal Management Plan

Maroondah’s Domestic Animal Management Plan is a proactive approach to animal management.  The primary purpose of the Plan is to detail the requirements for responsible dog and cat management within the municipality.

Council recognises dogs and cats have an impact on the health, wellbeing and lives of the whole community.  Our objective is to encourage people to manage pets in a way that protects the health and welfare of the animal; maximises the companion benefits of their pet; and minimises potential for nuisance or harm to others.

New Domestic Animal Management Plan

Maroondah City Council is preparing a new Domestic Animal Management Plan, which will provide the framework for animal management services over the next four years.

The Domestic Animals Act 1994 requires all Councils in Victoria to develop a Domestic Animal Management (DAM) Plan. The plan is for a four year period and is reviewed annually.

To help us prepare the new plan we are asking for community feedback. You don’t need to be a pet owner to have your say, we want to hear from all residents of Maroondah.

There’s a number of ways you can have your say:

  • complete an online survey
  • pick up a hard copy survey at a Customer Service Centre or Croydon Library
  • write to maroondah@maroondah.vic.gov.au or PO BOX 156, Ringwood, 3134; or
  • speak to our Local Laws team by calling 1300 88 22 33 or 9298 4598.

All feedback must be received by Monday 5 June.

What type of things do we want to know?

  • How important are pets to you and your family?
  • How well does Council’s animal management services address your needs?
  • Do you have any issues/challenges owning a pet in Maroondah?
  • Would you support a community animal-focused event or expo?
  • Do you have any issues with dogs in parks, reserves or around the streets?
  • Do you think Council’s cat curfew is effective?
  • Does more need to be done to support vulnerable pet owners and their animals?
  • Would you like to see more fenced dog parks in Maroondah?
  • Is there enough information available on pet-related community groups in Maroondah?
  • What can be done to ensure animals and people can continue to live together harmoniously?
  • Would you support the introduction of compulsory desexing of dogs and cats?
  • Would you like to know more about animal-related volunteer organisations in Maroondah?
