Fences Abutting Council Land

Council will pay half the cost of erecting or renewing fencing that abuts Council property.  However, fencing that abuts roads or Rights of Way remain at full cost to the property owner.

Council will only agree to pay half the cost of a standard paling fence (1.63m or 5'4"in height). If the property owner wishes to construct a fence higher than the standard height or of different material, they will have to obtain approval from Council and cover the price difference.

To apply for renewal or erection of fencing that abuts Council land, please provide

  • a brief letter detailing the proposed works, and

  • three quotes from fencing contractors for the cost of a standard paling fence that is to be constructed and shared by Council-owned property.
