Vale Gordon Coutts

“It is with regret that I advise the Maroondah community of the passing of former Mayor and Councillor of the former City of Croydon, Gordon Coutts, who passed away on 16 July,” said Mayor of Maroondah, Councillor Tony Dib.

“Gordon was a stalwart within the Croydon community and served as a Councillor for a combined total of 12 years and one month, serving as Mayor in 1988/89,” said Cr Dib.

He was elected to Croydon Council in:

  • March 1974 (Extraordinary election) and defeated at the election in August 1978
  • March 1986 (Extraordinary election) and defeated at the election in August 1990
  • August 1991 and served until amalgamation November 1994

Gordon was a member of the Eastfield Park Committee of Management from its inception in 1976, also serving as the delegate on the Committee for Croydon Council.

Upon retirement from Council, Gordon continued to serve the community on this Committee, undertaking the role of Secretary, and later that of Treasurer, a role which he held from 1980 until retirement from the Committee in 1997.

Gordon will be sadly missed by all that knew him and his passing is a loss to the Maroondah community.

As a mark of respect the Flags at Maroondah City Council offices will be flown at half mast from Tuesday 18 July until the funeral, which is being held on Thursday 20 July.
