Council Budget and Plan adopted

At its meeting on Monday 26 June 2017, Maroondah City Council adopted the Council Plan 2017#2021 and the Annual Budget 2017/18.

Maroondah Mayor, Councillor Tony Dib said that these two documents are key to delivering important services and improvements for the Maroondah community, including $27.254 million in capital works.

“The Council Plan and Annual Budget 2017/18 have been on public exhibition for the past month and Councillors have been actively engaging the community on their thoughts,” said Cr Dib.

“The Annual Budget includes funding for 15 major initiatives and a further 20 initiatives identified in the newly-adopted Council Plan. The initiatives council plan coverreflect the current and future needs of the Maroondah community and help us move towards our Maroondah 2040 community vision,” said Cr Dib.

“The Annual Budget also funds more than 120 services that we provide to the community, including child and family health services, supported residential care, social inclusion and wellbeing initiatives, youth programs, crossing supervision as well as funding for vital programs, particularly in the areas of leisure and culture, the environment and capital works,” said Cr Dib.

Some priority actions identified in the Council Plan 2017-2021 include:

  • Redevelopment of the HE Parking Sporting Pavilion in Heathmont and the Silcock Sporting Pavilion in Croydon.
  • Creation of a new Croydon Town Square.
  • Continuation of vital drainage and flood mitigation work in Ringwood and Ringwood East.
  • Development of a Climate Change and Risk Mitigation Strategy.
  • Work in partnership to implement intersection improvement works at the corner of Maroondah Highway and Dorset Road in Croydon North.

Highlights of the 2017/18 Capital Works programs:

  • $2.440 million for drainage works in Dublin Road, East Ringwood, and flood mitigation works in Acacia Court, Ringwood, including water-sensitive urban design and streetscape works.
  • $4.467 million on recreational and open space improvements, including Jubilee Park, Ringwood Lake Park, Cheong Park and the new Croydon Town Square.
  • $7.843 million on buildings and renewal works, including the Bedford Scout Hall, Kurboroo Kindergarten in Warranwood and the East Ringwood Senior Citizens Centre.
  • $7.097 million on roads, footpaths, local area traffic management and carparks, including a $2.16 million footpath replacement and construction program at various sites.
