The winter-warming movie classics keep coming at Karralyka this winter. A screening of the much-loved movie musical My Fair Lady will run on Tuesday 11 July at 10.30am, as part of the Toe-tapping Tuesdays series.

Starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, the movie is an adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name, which is based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion. The original Broadway cast included Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews.

The story centres around Henry Higgins (played by Harrison), a professor of phonetics, who takes a bet that he can transform an unrefined Cockney girl named Eliza Doolittle (played by Hepburn) into a ‘lady’, including teaching her to speak ‘correctly’ and having her attend the annual Embassy Ball. But will this social experiment turn into something else entirely?

Councillor Kylie Spears said that although more than half a century on since the film’s premiere in 1964, My Fair Lady still resonated with audiences today.

“What better way to experience a movie screening of this Broadway classic than within the comfortable surrounds of Karralyka, and where else would you also be treated to a delicious morning tea!” Cr Spears said.

“Whether you’ve seen it once or a dozen times, the big screen version of My Fair Lady never ceases to entertain and delight. So, come and enjoy one of the greatest motion pictures of all time the way it was meant to be seen – on the big screen,” she said.

Enjoy wonderful songs by Lerner and Loewe, including Wouldn’t it be Loverly, The Rain in Spain, Get Me to the Church on Time and I Could Have Danced All Night, and return to a classic era of cinema.

My Fair Lady will screen at Karralyka on Tuesday 11 July at 10.30am, as part of Toe-Tapping Tuesdays. Tickets are $11 each, including a delicious morning tea from 9.45am.
