Immunisation with a dress-up theme!

21 June 2017

It’s a busy time raising a four-year-old, so it’s easy to forget when you’re due to attend the next immunisation session. The four-year-old session is also a key health milestone, so it’s especially important that your child doesn’t miss out.

To make the process easier for children and parents alike, Council's Immunisation team conducts special dress-up party sessions for four-year-olds. The next session is coming up tomorrow, Thursday 22 June, between 4pm and 6pm, at Keystone Hall, Civic Square, Croydon.

Maroondah Councillor Marijke Graham, a representative on the Maroondah Partners in Community Wellbeing Committee, said Council’s immunisation team was aiming to improve immunisation coverage rates for four-year-old children, as well as provide a less stressful environment for parents and children.

“Parents of children who recently attended four-year-old vaccination sessions across Maroondah shared their experiences with us on Council’s Facebook page, so it is both reassuring and heartening to know that our themed events are having such a positive impact,” Cr Graham said.

There are plenty of fun activities to distract any nervous children. There’s arts and crafts, a teddy bear hospital and story time. Plus, each child receives a bravery award and a show bag after their immunisation.

The four-year-old immunisation session vaccinates against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and polio – serious and life-threatening conditions that immunisation seeks to prevent returning to the community. The vaccines can be given from three-and-a-half years of age, which is also when a key Maternal and Child Health developmental check-up is due. Those applying for four-year-old kindergarten must also ensure that their vaccination records are up-to-date.

Bookings for the four-year-old dress-up session are not required.
