Calling all budding rockstars and young performers. It’s time to warm up your vocal cords and tune your guitar – Battle of the Bands is back on Friday 25 August!

Maroondah’s own FReeZA crew, Bassline Productions, with support from Maroondah Youth Services, is hosting a local heat as part of this year’s FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands competition, and you’re invited to enter.

The event showcases young musicians from around Victoria, giving them the opportunity to perform, gain local exposure, and win their way to a spot in the Grand Final line-up.

The winner of the local heat will be offered a film recording package and the chance to create their own music video. They will also be guaranteed a performance on the Youth Stage at the highly attended Maroondah Festival in November, as well as go on to compete in the regional finals from October to December.

Winners from the nine regional finals will then ‘battle it out’ on stage in the grand final held as part of the annual St Kilda Music Festival in February.

The competition is open to any style of music, including bands, soloists, duos, hip hop artists, electronic, acoustic acts, etc. It is of most benefit to artists performing original material.

Maroondah Councillor Michael Macdonald said the competition was a great initiative for local young performers, 25 years and under, to get involved in.

“There are many talented young musicians and performers across the municipality that should register for this year’s Battle of the Bands competition. There are some incredible prizes on offer for winners, and it is also great for budding artists to get experience performing in front of a large crowd,” Cr Macdonald said.

EV’s Youth Centre in Croydon will again play host to one of the regional heats on Friday 25 August.

“We are thrilled that we are able to again hold a Battle of the Bands heat here in Maroondah and hope to see a host of local talent take to the stage,” Cr Macdonald added.

“Not only is this local heat a platform for young performers, but a platform for young event organisers and promoters alike,” he said.

All FReeZA events at EV’s are fully supervised by youth workers and security staff and are alcohol, drug and smoke free events.

Applications for the heat at EV’s close on Sunday 30 July.
