Bus shelter installation in Maroondah

Media statement from Mayor, Cr Tony Dib

12 May 2017

Council has an agreement with the Victorian Government regarding the supply, maintenance and repair of bus shelters in Maroondah. This agreement sees Council working with Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and Adshel to determine locations for new bus shelters, which are allocated by PTV, and installed, on an annual basis.

Maroondah currently has approximately 560 bus stops servicing 21 metropolitan bus routes, with 178 bus shelters.

PTV has allocated 22 shelters to Maroondah for 2016/17. These will be installed during May and June of this year. Two of these shelters will be installed at locations along Collier Road in Kilsyth South, following a request from a local resident in June last year. Council advised the resident of the outcome of their request and the timeframes for installation.

For all proposed new bus shelter sites, Council determines the usage patterns of the existing bus stops and the ability for the site to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, which is a requirement of the agreement with PTV.

Council’s recommended locations are then provided to PTV for endorsement. Once the sites have been agreed to, a letter is sent to abutting residents, and those residents who have made a request, notifying them of the installation process and timelines.
