Regarding: Ringwood East shopping/public transport precinct CCTV cameras

From: Maroondah City Council CEO Steve Kozlowski

Following an allocation of $200,000 for CCTV cameras to the Ringwood East shopping precinct, the Australian Government signed an agreement with Council in November 2014, establishing Council as the responsible authority to undertake the project.

This project is one of several CCTV installations in shopping/public transport precincts, including Ringwood, Ringwood East and Croydon.

Since signing the agreement, Council has undertaken extensive consultation with Ringwood East traders and Victoria Police to determine priority locations for the cameras and undertake concept and design development.

This has taken into account the six (6) existing trader CCTV cameras located throughout the precinct, to ensure the location of the additional CCTV cameras provides the greatest combined coverage of the precinct. In addition, negotiations have been underway with landowners, including VicTrack and MTM, as East Ringwood railway station is opposite the shopping strip and the existing light poles at the station provide the best, unimpeded coverage in both directions along Railway Avenue.

The tender process to install the CCTV system was completed in March this year, with the installation of one of the cameras currently underway, which will be operational at the end of the month.

Council is still awaiting permission from VicTrack and MTM for approval to install another five CCTV cameras.

Once these negotiations are finalised, the additional CCTV cameras at Ringwood East will be installed.
